Cancer Project Launched at World Community Grid

A new project has been launched today by World Community Grid: Help Conquer Cancer.

This project, a partnership with the Ontario Cancer Institute (OCI), Princess Margaret Hospital, and University Health Network, aims to "improve the results of protein X-ray crystallography, which helps researchers not only annotate unknown parts of the human proteome, but importantly improves their understanding of cancer initiation, progression and treatment." (World Community Grid: Help Conquer Cancer)

With over 80 million crystallography images to analyze, thousands of computers will be required to complete the task in a reasonable amount of time.

Supporting this project requires the BOINC client; Linux and Windows versions will be available first, and a Mac version will follow. According to the Help Conquer Cancer website, this project officially launches November 6th. However, it is currently available for selection on the project page.
