April brought us some exciting news from Change.org. They are offering their premium toolset to nonprofits for free. Plus there a couple new features. In case you missed the announcement, here's a quick summary of new ways to reach your audience.

  • Actions: If it fits with your mission, you can set up petitions and collect signatures. Check out the list for ways other nonprofits are using actions.
  • Messages: Reach all the people who support you on Change.org. Personally, my only contact with half of the nonprofits I support is through the Change.org website. So you may be able to reach some people you're missing right now.
  • Supporter requests: Ask Change.org members to become supporters. This could be your chance to make contact with motivated people who are not yet familiar with your organization.
  • Link to your profiles: If you have an active community on other sites (Myspace, Facebook, Twitter...), add a link and send your supporters there.

If you already have the premium toolset, you get to save $20 a month. Also there are a couple new features for you to check out.

  • Asks: Send out a Twitter-based request for help. See this list for some examples of how you might use this feature. You might send out a specific volunteer request, ask for fans for your Facebook page, or announce an event.
  • Customization: Choose your own colors for your Change.org page and upload your organization's banner.

If you want to keep up with the Change.org updates, or if you need a little extra help getting set up, see the nonprofit blog for news and webinars.
